Play For Today

I was listening to Play For Today from The Cure (live version from the album ‘Paris’) which is one of my favorite songs. While doing this I was reading and at the same time understanding the lyrics for the first time. This may be strange to a native English speaker, but people like me hardly ever understand what a song is exactly about. I had to think of the photo above … I made it some years ago, but it’s worth a re-post … and … here are the lyrics.

It’s not a case of doing what’s right
It’s just the way I feel that matters
Tell me I’m wrong
I don’t really care

It’s not a case of share and share alike
I take what I require
I don’t understand …
You say it’s not fair

You expect me to act
Like a lover
Consider my moves
And deserve the reward
To hold you in my arms
And wait
And wait
And wait
For something to happen

It’s not a case of telling the truth
Some lines just fit the situation
Call me a liar
You would anyway

It’s not a case of aiming to please
You know you’re always crying
It’s just your part
In the play for today

  1. I feel the same way. When your mind is on other things you basicly listen to the music but don’t hear the lyrics. Whenever you have to time you should just lay on the floor stare at the ceiling and really listen that’s what I do.
